What we pass on.
A sign drawn in the palm of a hand unfolds until it fills the field of vision. In blue-black on ivory, its branches fit into the spaces between neighbouring figures. The eye follows a contour, is drawn into the whole, then recognises the same form elsewhere.
At the heart of the work lies the slightest space between the signs. It preserves each one and allows them to interlock. The space that separates them also helps connect them: each form has its own boundaries and makes room for the next.
LIGNÉE offers an image of inheritance. The same mark runs throughout, with no single instance claiming the centre. It may suggest a growing family, a name passed down, or a personal gesture that others can carry forward. Continuity depends as much on what each person carries as on the room they leave for others.
The motifs cut off by the edges suggest a history of which we see only a fragment. It seems to have begun before our arrival and to be able to continue beyond us.
What once fitted in a hand becomes larger than its maker.
