VESTIGE

What remains.

Amid the field of stars, VESTIGE leaves room for darkness. A broad hollow crosses the composition, edged with brown, violet and grey filaments. Its outline is uneven: the material gathers in some places and stretches elsewhere until it is almost transparent. The eye searches for a shape within the opening, then returns to the details along its edges.

A few bright stars punctuate the image. Their sharp rays contrast with the delicate veils around them. Between these points of light, smaller stars become apparent the longer we look. The scene seems still, yet its folds and branching strands suggest material that is still moving, as though something has only just dispersed.

The title places the scene in the aftermath of an unknown event. The filaments can be read as the remnants of a presence, the outline of something that has withdrawn. On this imagined scale, absence takes up space and becomes almost tangible. It may recall what memory holds of a place or a person: precise details surrounding what we can no longer recover. VESTIGE lingers in that interval, where a form fades while its trace continues to hold our attention.
